Clonwerk’s adventure started in 1979, when its 4 future founding partners, spurred by their sense of entrepreneurship and inspired by the film Star Wars, decided to build life-sized animated robots they would rent to those companies wishing to promote their products in an innovative way at exhibitions or events.
Clonwerk Storia
In 1984, Clonwerk’s synergies were channelled into a limited company set in Piazza Durante in Milan, Italy. The creative genius of a Brera art master combined with the talent of three brilliant technicians resulted in the company’s leitmotiv: Clonwerk offers interventions and systems in which creativity matches technology.

Growth was steady and constant ever since and expansion soon began with the acquisition of technological know-how and professional skills. This allowed the company to carry out new projects such as wire- and radio-transmitted electronic voting systems, defect analysis systems for cars, automated systems to interactively manage competitions with dozens of thousands of people connected in real time. All tools were developed for events that took advantage of absolutely innovative technologies for those times.

In 1995, Clonwerk, with an expanded staff and larger premises, moved its offices and labs to its present site of via Parenzo, Milan. The know-how acquired in software technology and graphics resulted in relevant collaborations with important partners such as Mediaset and Rai.

By 2002, Clonwerk had become an established brand and kept growing. A new branch was opened in Rome. In 2004, it underwent expansion of both premises and staff. In the same year, the graphic service was also expanded to serve television and events.
Clonwerk’s staff currently features sixty people. The offices in Milan and Rome are connected via optic fibre and a latest generation Cisco virtual private line.

In 2003, Clonwerk began designing systems, equipment and software for virtual sets. At the beginning of 2004, a sophisticated pilot system with two independent real time rendering video lines was set to work for Rai, together with two tracked pan, tilt and zoom cameras.

Meanwhile, the R&D Department at Clonwerk worked with Mediaset to develop synchronisation technology for interactive applications for digital terrestrial TV, resulting in the creation of a new system called “In Sync”, which still guarantees interactivity with some TV formats.

In 2005, in order to develop the company’s most active business areas, the management proceeded to a comprehensive reorganisation which resulted in the creation of a holding controlling two operative companies: Clonwerk srl and Vi.So srl.

In 2008, Clonwerk develops a systems division which allows to provide complete solutions for content production and management in broadcasting field. Thanks to this service, it has developed the whole operative structure (production-rooms, studios equipment and brand identity) of Extra TV, the new TV Network of Latium.
